The story behind Nakamigos, HiFo Labs, and the community.
Nakamigos are 20,000 unique 24x24 pixel characters on Ethereum, "friends of Nakamoto." Created by the anonymous HiFo Labs, the collection appeared on October 31, 2022, the 14th anniversary of the Bitcoin whitepaper.
HiFo Labs went on to release Nakamigos-CLOAKS (20,000 characters with worldwide gaming rights), Crypto Trading Cards (1880-1979), Hal Froggy Bobbleheads, and Fukuhedrons on Bitcoin Ordinals. Holders receive full commercial rights to their NFTs.
Nakamigo.ai emerged as a community-driven AI project, not affiliated with HiFo Labs, but rooted in the same culture. It brings together the MigoStrategy token, community tools, and a growing ecosystem of games and experiments built by Nakamigos holders.
The lore is still being written. Every game shipped, every tool built, every community call, it all adds to the story.

Michael Mills is an OG crypto artist and one of the first 20 artists on SuperRare. He created the 20,000 Nakamigos pixel characters, each a 24x24 pixel identity with a style that nods to CryptoPunks while standing entirely on its own. The collection spans humans, animals, robots, zombies, and dozens of trait combinations that became iconic in the NFT space.
Mills' pixel art is the visual backbone of the entire HiFo Labs ecosystem: Nakamigos, CLOAKS (20,000 characters with worldwide gaming rights), Crypto Trading Cards, and Hal Froggy Bobbleheads. His identity was kept anonymous for months as part of HiFo Labs' deliberately mysterious branding before he eventually revealed himself publicly.
His broader body of work, described as "Explorations in Digital," spans well beyond pixel art. Every 24 pixels tell a story.
Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, is the digital artist who shattered records when his Everydays: The First 5000 Days sold for $69.3 million at Christie's on March 12, 2021, purchased by MetaKovan for 42,329 ETH. It was the first purely NFT-based artwork sold at a major auction house, making him one of the three most valuable living artists alongside David Hockney and Jeff Koons. He's created one new digital artwork from scratch every single day since May 1, 2007.
His connection to Nakamigos started when he promised to create "Chapter 2" for the project if the community hit a 1 ETH floor price, and he created an Everyday piece called "Pray" in honor of the collection. In August 2025, at a Beeple Studios event, he pulled off the infamous "CryptoPunks Prequel" prank, presenting a fake AI-generated interview claiming Nakamigos was secretly a Larva Labs project that predated CryptoPunks. The floor price surged ~140% and trading volume spiked +3,800% within hours before the reveal. He also built HUMAN ONE, a 7-foot hybrid physical/digital sculpture that sold for $28.9 million at Christie's.
